What is Therapeutic Listening?
Therapeutic Listening is one of the key approaches that we specialize here at Star Whale. It is an individualized intervention technique often used by occupational therapists to address auditory processing issues, attention difficulties and emotional regulation.
It involves listening to specially recorded and enhanced music on headphones as part of a daily home program that is highly adaptable to the specific needs of individuals. The choice of music, type of modulation, and individualized activity program vary depending on the goals and needs of the children. By monitoring the child’s progress in Therapeutic Listening, we are able to change and adapt the child’s individualized program to meet treatment goals.
Because the auditory system has connections to many parts of the brain, sound is a powerful way to access the nervous system, affect positive changes and help children better manage sensory input.

“The neural processing of sound can be classified as one of the primal forms of sensory integration because it has long been a major source of information regarding basic survival.”
